This Municipality was constituted during the year 1951 vide notification No. 54/LSG dated 03.01.1951. The total area of this Municipality is 21.93 Sq. Kms. Altogether 27 revenue villages are coming under this Municipality. There are 21 wards in this Municipality. Total population is 60,590 out of which 31,481 are male and 29,109 are female as per 2011 Census.
